The Vikings came to Dublin and decided it would be a good place to settle. Dublin was a good spot for the Vikings because it is on the River Liffey. The River Liffey meant the Vikings could get around, they could also fish and have drinking water. A few Gaelic people had lived there when the Vikings arrived, but the Vikings made Dublin into an important town. The name Dublin comes from the Gaelic Dubh (black) and Linn (pool). At Dublin Castle you can see the spot where the black pool originally was. It is no longer there, but it is a nice spot for people to come and go for a walk. It is called Dubhlinn Garden beside the Garden of Remembrance. Here's a photo of it below.
The Video below is from the DVD Medieval Dublin: From Vikings to Tudors. It is very interesting, but it does take 35 minutes to watch. It shows what Viking Dublin was like and what their settlement may have been like to live in. It also shows Dublin a little later, as it began to grow and grow.
